On 8 November 2013 we welcomed a wonderful group of new missionaries! The largest group we have had while here. We had 9 new local missionaries and 13 new missionaries from the Provo MTC. That doesn't count the 3 that were fast-tracked and came a couple of months earlier. We are so grateful for all of them. Our hearts, spirits, vans, and mission home were filled to overflowing as welcomed these new missionaries, provided orientation, and assigned them to trainers and areas.
Above are 5 of our new local missionaries, Vietnamese program-- the Tieng sisters (we call them Tieng 1 and Tieng 2) are first and third from the left and were not able to get passports, so we did our own "mini MTC" here for them while the other local missionaries were in Manila. They did so well and had such a good attitude about it.
We had them puzzling things out as part of getting them oriented. The big group from Provo MTC got delayed-- instead of coming in at 10am they came in about 10pm. They actually had to go back to the MTC in Provo from the SL airport because of the delay! At least for a few hours. We had a whole day with the local missionaries and tried to keep them busy with some training and also proselyting with other missionaries in the afternoon.
Here is our group of wonderful new local missionaires, 5 in the Vietnamese program and 4 in the Cambodian program.
Our training room/office was packed with people for the making of assignments and training with trainers... standing room only!
Here's the whole group-- a little hard to see everyone because the lighting wasn't great, but what a wonderful, amazing, historic group of new missionaries! They are a great boost of excitement and faith and energy to our mission! We now have 136 young missionaries-- more than we have ever had.
