In Siam Reap, on our mission tour, near Angkor Wat. We were walking with the elders back to visit some members in that branch. Very poor area, as picture of a typical home below shows. But very lush and beautiful. Enjoyed visiting and teaching with two part-member families, and a less active family-- only the mother was home.
Pictures of our dining room and kitchen in the mission home-- separated by a small island, this is same room, two ends of it. Kathryn is still trying to figure out the propane-fed oven, a little tricky for baking. And manual dish-washing, but that's ok-- nice to be able to talk while doing the dishes together.
Again in Siam Reap, the day we were driving around Angor Wat area. Mostly just looked at from the van. Someday we'll spend more time there. Unfortunately the only things we have pictures of so far is mostly the "non missionary" type stuff, but oh well, you'll get a sense for some of the scenery.
A rubber tree plantation on the way to Kampong Cham. We stopped to take a picture.
A typical baptismal font - this one is in Kampong Cham on the grounds of one of the rented church buildings there. The church owns a large, very well placed piece of property to build a district/stake center. There are 3 branches in Kampong Cham currently. We just need to help them get the attendance and tithing faithfulness up a bit to qualify for starting construction.
Spent a couple of hours one preparation day in Phnom Penh at the Royal Palace, and took a tour, while Chantelle here. They don't let you go in most of the buildings, but you can walk around the beautiful grounds and see inside some of the temples. Tour guide below holding an umbrella in background. She was funny, and tiny. Told the girls if they worked hard at school they could be successful and maybe become a US Ambassador and be able to come back and go inside the buildings to meet the King! We didn't wear name tags inside the temples and palace grounds. Not sure if that would have been a problem or not, but we were being parents and not missionaries for those couple of hours.
One night ate out at a fairly nice little restaurant, not far from mission home. All cambodian food (see below). Several items were delicious, some not so much, but it was an adventure and we very much enjoyed relaxing a bit for dinner that evening.
