After two years of having the water festival cancelled, due to various political and other reasons, we were happy that it actually occurred once while we were here. Below some of the pictures from wandering out by the waterfront the first night of water festival, and the "electrical boat" parade
Each day teams of long boats and rowers from all over the country compete in races on the river
The crowds were not as much as the city expected-- we heard a lot of people in the countryside stayed away fearing more problems like had happened 3 years ago when a bridge collapsed and many people were killed.
